300 Students, 1 Purpose: Encounter Worship Night.

On August 18th, something powerful happened at Epworth School.

Over 300 students gathered for our fifth Encounter Worship Night—a truly refreshing time as young people came together to experience the presence of God in a powerful way.

"Come, let us worship and bow down. Let us kneel before the Lord our maker, for he is our God. We are the people he watches over, the flock under his care." (Psalm 95:6-7, NLT)

More Than Just Worship

Encounter isn't just about music (though the worship is incredible). It's about creating spaces where young people can:

  • Experience God's presence in a tangible, powerful way

  • Connect with peers who share their faith

  • Encourage and uplift one another

  • Invite friends to explore Christianity in a non-threatening environment

  • Grow in faith and be reminded they're part of God's bigger story

These evenings allow young people to invite their peers and create a space where questions are welcome, vulnerability is safe, and the Holy Spirit moves.

Why Encounter Matters

In independent schools, students face unique pressures:

  • Academic demands.

  • Social expectations.

  • Questions about identity and purpose.

  • The challenge of living out faith in a secular environment.

Encounter provides a monthly rhythm where students can:

  • Pause from the busyness.

  • Worship without distraction.

  • Be reminded of who they are in Christ.

  • Find community with other believers.

Other Highlights from Independent Schools

Michaelhouse Christian Focus Week

Garland and Neo served at the Michaelhouse Christian Focus Week this year. It was a special opportunity to invest in learners as we created space for them to pause during the busyness of everyday school life and focus on faith.

From planned sessions to God moments in-between, we saw God move throughout the week.

For us, it's always such a privilege to walk alongside learners in these weeks—to listen to their questions, to share stories of hope, and to watch them encounter God in ways that are real and personal.

Unity Gathering at St Anne's

On September 15th, we were warmly hosted at St Anne's Diocesan College for our Unity Gathering. It was a special and significant moment as we took time to:

  • Honor and pray over the Matric leaders of 2025

  • Welcome the leaders for 2026 into their season of spiritual leadership

Unity has always been about bringing young people together in Christ, and this gathering was a beautiful reminder of the power of fellowship, prayer, and shared vision.

Watching new leaders rise while celebrating those who have carried the baton was a powerful picture of continuity and hope for the future.

The Power of Creating Space

In a world that's constantly noisy, fast-paced, and demanding, young people need spaces where they can:

Slow down and breathe

Worship freely without judgment

Ask questions and explore faith

Build friendships rooted in Christ

Be reminded that they are deeply loved by God

Encounter creates that space.

We are grateful for what God is doing through these worship nights and look forward to many more opportunities to see hearts ignited for Him.
